Ryalls Court is a grade II listed building in Seaton, Devon, with a rich history. We have been working with the client to get the relevant permissions for them to perform essential maintenance to the crenellations, windows, doors and damaged render. Last week we visited site to check up on the progress of the maintenance works and discuss the future of the building. With the help of Katharine Metcalfe IHBC we will be entering discussions with the local planning authority via a pre-app submission to explore the possibilities of extending the building to ensure it can facilitate 21st century living. Built in 1834, the building operated as a singular private residence until 1916. With the outbreak of war in 1914, the building operated as a Red Cross hospital from 1916-1919. Following the end of the war, the building was converted into the Ryalls Court School, which operated until around 1998. At the turn of the millennium the derelict school was purchased by a developer and converted into two semi-detached dwellings. Below are some interesting photos of the building’s history!
